Their story begins like many other stories, a dating app and two people who were bored.
Tyrone and Brent met in May 2020. Yes, you read that correctly. During the pandemic. They convinced each other that they were both “safe” because they were both working from home and did not meet random strangers, the one thing they both planned on doing very soon after they started talking.
Tyrone does not drive and Brent was trying out the car free life, during the absolute worst time in history to not have a car, once again, COVID. Thank god for Uber and Lyft. Shortly thereafter, Brent bought a car and started his pilgrimages to the Bronx.
For 2 years Tyrone and Brent went on dates, but neither were willing to give it a name. Finally, on May 13th, 2022, Brent was tickling Tyrone on the couch and stopped, looked at Tyrone’s beautiful smile and at that moment Brent got the courage to say “Baby, you wanna be my boyfriend?” Tyrone laughed and did not answer, so they went on about their night watching movies and eating take-out.
Later that night when they were both playing on TikTok before going to sleep, Brent turned to Tyrone and said “You never answered me?” to which Tyrone replied “Of course!” after telling Brent he thought it was just a drunken gesture and not a real proposal of a relationship.
From then on, Brent and Tyrone spent every weekend ,they weren’t traveling, in Stamford, most of it in Tiny Condo. Brent’s love for Tyrone grew every weekend because he saw unconditional love being returned.
After two weeks of dating, Tyrone and Brent took a trip to Rehoboth Beach, DE to see their friends Jeff, Bryan, Frank, Roxy, Mags, Chris, Kevin, David, Richard…you get the point, they have lots of good friends. During this trip, Tyrone sealed the deal by locking himself in the bathroom at Diego’s and texting the group chat for someone to come help him. After that, no more drinking Cosmos on an empty stomach!
When walking home, they had a deep conversation that strengthened their relationship by telling the other what exactly they wanted and expected to be returned. They were fully aligned and have never strayed from that promise.
In May of 2024, Brent started sending pictures to Tyrone of French Bulldogs. Tyrone particularly liked one and replied “He’s cute baby.” Which to Brent meant, “Buy that dog immediately!” This is when Napoleon entered their lives.
They weren’t growing apart, they weren’t spiteful, they weren’t even bored! But for some reason they got Napoleon, to this day it’s blamed mostly on Brent. The little dog brought boundless amounts of love to the family and created a tighter bond between Brent and Tyrone. Both loving the animal as if it is their child. Nothing could then separate the three of them.
Brent often asked Tyrone for his opinion on things after Napoleon entered their lives, but Tyrone never would. When Brent finally called him out on it, Tyrone replied "The last time I gave you affirmations you bought a dog!" This was a fair point, but a little dramatic as Brent had also started the preliminary adoption steps for an English Bulldog. Tyrone never learned that they almost had an English Bulldog too, so Brent continued to live happily with only his one excessive purchase.
For the next two years, Brent and Tyrone traveled, drank, ate, and loved each other unconditionally. The only thing that separated them was work. Neither are independently wealthy, or at least admitted it during the time of this writing, so they had to work. Tyrone in mid-town Manhattan and Brent in Stamford. This meant many many many many many trips between Stamford and the Bronx.
Brent never complained, other than daily, about Tyrone living in the Bronx. He happily, but occasionally angrily, drove to get Tyrone unless Brent was tired and once again Uber/Lyft stepped in to support their relationship. The rides gave them time to connect, communicate, and bond. Every ride was a new story of another week gone by. Every ride was a moment of happiness. Every ride gave them one more reason to smile.
Tyrone and Brent have only been officially together for 3 years, but their life together started way before that. This life has been filled with laughter, romance, playful bickering, and love. Every meeting is filled with joy and every departure filled with sadness. They love each other unconditionally and agree they always should.
